We should all be aware of what we are eating, what's in our food and where it comes from.

About Me

Welcome to my website where health meets science and lifestyle transformation becomes a reality.

My name is Gus Ferguson and I work to help people reclaim their health and vitality through personalised coaching sessions and support courses rooted in the principles of low carbohydrate and ketogenic eating.

I qualified as a doctor in Cape Town in the 1980s, worked in hospitals and General Practice in South Africa, New Zealand and the UK before moving into clinical research. An interest in computers led to an MSc in Computer Science and research and lecturing in Bioinformatics and Human Computer Interaction largely related to Clinical Genetics and other medical areas. I worked in software development related to the Life Sciences and then started teaching Secondary Computer Science and gained my post-graduate teaching diploma. I am based in Fife, Scotland.

I am registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), without a certificate to practice, the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and certified by Disclosure Scotland to work with young people and vulnerable groups.

This means that although I do not give medical advice or treatments, I am able to bring my medical knowledge and understanding of current research and developments in the field to the coaching and lifestyle advice I provide.

My Journey

My journey towards better health began more than a decade ago. I had always suffered from unstable blood sugar, regularly experiencing intense hunger and “sugar crashes”, and having to always have a snack to hand in case I needed to eat. After 30 years of a vegetarian diet, I was overweight and with a strong family history, was well on the path to Type 2 diabetes.

I initially reset my blood glucose control with six weeks of very low calorie diet, and then I became extremely gluten intolerant following a severe reaction to a soya burger, so I went onto a low carbohydrate diet, which then evolved into a full ketogenic diet after a few years.

In the course of this I have seen a marked improvement in the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) that I have suffered from my whole life, joint pain and general wellbeing. Having lost 30 kg of weight, my energy levels are massively better than before, and I can do intense exercise and go for full days of hillwalking without having to eat at all.

What I can do for you

My coaching sessions and support courses are designed to provide you with the knowledge, tools, and support you need to succeed. I offer personalised guidance tailored to your unique needs and goals, helping you navigate the challenges and celebrate the victories along the way. I have helped individuals transition to low carbohydrate and ketogenic lifestyles with remarkable results. Many have not only reversed their health conditions but have also discovered a newfound sense of empowerment and control over their health.

Why Low Carb and Keto

Reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing healthy fats regulates blood sugar levels, lowers blood insulin levels leading to reduction in inflammation and promoting weight loss.

These ways of eating are particularly effective for individuals with insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes, and other metabolic disorders.

Transitioning to a low carb or keto lifestyle can be challenging without the right support. That’s where I come in. With my comprehensive coaching and support courses, you will receive the education and encouragement you need to make lasting changes.

The Evidence

When I started out on my journey, there was very little information available on low carb diets, and ketogenic diets were considered dangerous for all but a few medical conditions. This has changed significantly over the last 10 years as the science and knowledge has built up, and acceptance of the value of these approaches grown. It is now clear that low carbohydrate diets are effective and sustainable for control of weight, prevention and treatment of Type 2 diabetes, and inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.

The currently emerging revolution is the use of ketogenic diet in the control of mental health conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD and schizophrenia.

The emphasis is shifting to achieving metabolic health and how this benefits all body systems and promotes wellbeing.

The Food Industry

All this progress has been against a massive pushback from the processed food and beverage industry, which continues and grows. The move to eating naturally produced, real food can be challenging for some people, but the benefits are huge. I particularly promote using local produce where possible, giving full traceability and lowering the environmental impact of production.

I am also a strong supporter of regenerative agriculture and pasture for life. These farming practices not only produce high-quality, nutrient-dense food but also restore soil health and enhance biodiversity. By choosing local foods produced through regenerative agriculture and natural grazing systems, we can make a positive impact on our health and the environment.

Thank you for your interest in my site. I look forward to helping you achieve your health goals and benefitting from reconnecting your food and your health.
